8 Ways You Can Celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day From Home

Feb. 01, 2021

Random Acts of Kindness Day is coming up on February 17! Even though we are social distancing, there are still lots of things we can do to show kindness from home. Try these ideas.

Random Acts of Kindness for Your Friends and Family

Mail a Card

Get out the craft supplies and put your art skills to the test. Mail a pretty card and handwritten note to a friend near or far. Consider sending appreciation cards to teachers and front line workers who have impacted your family this past year.

Share a GIF

Make someone smile online. Post a heartwarming GIF or inspirational quote on your friends’ social media accounts.

Phone a Friend

Social distancing doesn’t mean we can’t be social. Call someone you haven’t seen in a while, especially people who are more isolated during this time, like older family members.

Send a Meal

While dining out isn’t the same, we can still support restaurants and enjoy good food. Surprise a loved one with a warm meal delivered to their door.

Spread Cheer on the Sidewalk

Share a message of hope for neighbors to enjoy. This could be a sidewalk mural or an encouraging yard sign. Get creative!

Start a Teddy Bear Hunt

Have you heard about the teddy bear hunts that have been popular during lockdown? Encourage your neighbors to put a teddy bear in the window, then families can go on “teddy bear hunts” around the neighborhood looking for furry friends.

Give Goodie Bags To-Go

Delivery people have been bringing us food and packages night and day. Thank them with a basket of treats! Stock it with things like water bottles, goodie bags or even mini hand sanitizers that they can take to-go. Place it by the front door and make a sign so they know it’s for them. You’re sure to bring a smile.

Support a Charity

Pick a favorite charity and show your support with monetary or creative contributions. For instance, you could crochet winter hats for a local shelter, or send encouraging cards to seniors through Love for Our Elders.

Supporting Community at PNWFCU

We love giving back at PNWFCU. Some of the charities we regularly support include Schoolhouse Supplies, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Oregon Food Bank. See what we’ve been up to in the community.
